Maximum throughput in polymer powder bed fusion (PBF)
Polymer PBF using selective laser sintering (SLS) faces well-recognized challenges, especially regarding build speed and size. Although a single laser can incrementally expose and fuse the powder within a limited build area, SLS is not suitable for large-volume industrial uses.
A powerful IR projector, however, can fuse an entire powder layer in a single flash. Exposing a direct image onto the powder and fusing it in one step is the concept of direct image sintering.
Applying our scrolling DLP projector technology enables the projector – or a series of interconnected projectors – to move dynamically across the build field, directly exposing the image and sintering a far larger area. Our proprietary software seamlessly stitches images between projectors, eliminating size restrictions on the build area.
A typical DIS system comprises a single or multiple LUXBEAM Rapid System LRS-MCx NIR projectors and the proprietary LAMA software, depending on the builder’s desired configuration. To complete the system, machine builders provide their own choice of powder handling and heating setup, along with an X–Z motion system, into which DIS integrates.
